ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: CLICK HERE
Construction of a shielded room or a SCIF is very different from the
typical construction project. It is a combination of carpentry,
plumbing and electronic assembly. The necessary techniques in
many cases are counter-intuitive: They are the opposite of what
must be done in normal construction projects. If these
techniques are not employed, the finished enclosure will be full of
invisible electronic leaks. These leaks are extremely difficult to
locate and fix. They can quickly turn a profitable project into a
financial disaster. Unlike most trades, there is currently no formal
training or apprenticeship program for personnel involved in the
construction of shielded enclosures. This course fills a
long-standing need in the shielding industry.
OBJECTIVE
This course covers the special construction techniques involved
in building shielded enclosures. It reviews a typical government
testing standard, and provides a basic command of the
terminology and concepts used in the shielding industry.
Students will possess the ability to properly construct a shielded
enclosure under the direction of an experienced project engineer.
They will also possess the ability to effectively eliminate
electronic leaks, once they have been located by a shielding
effectiveness tester. They will be familiar with the hazards to
people and equipment that are involved in shielding effectiveness
tests.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
Anyone in government or industry whose responsibilities involve
the construction, maintenance, or repair of shielded enclosures
can benefit.
Continuing Education Units: 2
( 1 for attending lectures, 1 for participation in lab work. )
Equivalent to 20 Professional Development Hours (PDH)
per Pennsylvania Engineering Act 25 CE section 4.2
